Delta airport gets a nearly $3 million grant

ESCANABA, MI--   The Delta County Airport is getting $2.7 million from the Federal Aviation Administration for rehabilitation projects.

The money will be used to refurbish the runway and provide new signage and LED lighting for portions of the runway and taxiway.

Airport Manager Kelly Smith says the upgrades will make the facility more energy efficient and ensure that the airport is complying with safety regulations. She says ultimately, the funding will enable the Delta County Airport to continue to offer safe and reliable commercial air service in the U.P.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
