Death of WI trooper prompts better police communication

MARINETTE COUNTY, WI (AP)--   Officials from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies are trying to improve their communication after a Wisconsin state trooper was killed earlier this year.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the agencies plan to meet this week.

Marinette County is where serial bank robber Steven Snyder began his March 24 rampage, robbing a Wausaukee bank and stealing a bank employee's car before killing a truck driver. Snyder then drove to Fond du Lac and ambushed Trooper Trevor Casper, who was following him while waiting for backup to arrive. Both men were killed in the shootout.

The sheriff says he didn't learn about Snyder — or the threat he posed — until after the truck driver was killed.

The meeting is set for Thursday.
