DULUTH, MN (AP)-- In a sure sign that spring will eventually arrive, ice breaking activity is slated to begin on Lake Superior.
On Monday the U.S. Coast Guard will start breaking ice in the waters of Duluth Harbor in preparation for the 2013 shipping season.
Officials say operations will expand and increase in frequency as the ice and shipping demands require. They’ll include navigable waters in and around the ports of Duluth and Superior, as well as the waters of Silver Bay, Taconite Harbor, and Two Harbors in Minnesota.
