Counterfeiting suspect in custody in Houghton

HOUGHTON, MI--   A Hancock man has been arrested for making fake money.

Nicholas Edwards, 26, was taken into custody by the Houghton Police Department after a local business filed a complaint about suspected counterfeit money.  Police obtained a search warrant for a Hancock residence and seized a large amount of fake cash on Sunday.

Edwards is charged with counterfeiting—possession of coins, punishable by up to life in prison.  He remains lodged in the Houghton County Jail on a $100,000 cash surety bond.

A preliminary exam is set for December 14.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
