EAGLE RIVER, MI--   The Michigan Attorney Discipline Board has suspended Keweenaw County Prosecutor Donna Jaaskelainen for not doing her job.

Jaaskelainen was off of work effective March 18 and ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution.  She apparently took a retainer but didn’t follow through on the case and never returned the money to the client.

According to a formal complaint the ADB says Jaaskelainen neglected her responsibilities in two cases from 2010 and one from 2013.  It says she started the court process in all three, then stopped performing any duties, which led to the dismissal of each.

The Grievance Administrator has asked for an increase in discipline.  The ADB will schedule a hearing on the matter.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
