LANSING, MI (AP)-- The Michigan Public Service Commission says it's looking into safety issues involving natural gas pipeline hookups to certain homes and businesses.
The commission says some lines serving residential or commercial customers are connected directly to gas storage fields, transmission pipelines, regulated and unregulated gathering lines, oil and gas wells and gas processing facilities.
The connections often are made when the operator of the pipeline or storage field provides gas to a property owner in exchange for a right-of-way or easement across the property.
But the commission says those arrangement might not comply with gas safety standards.
Its staff is investigating how many homes or other structures are receiving gas that way, the types of connections, the sources of the gas and what safety equipment is installed at each connection.
