LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The state will fund sexual assault prevention programs at 22 Michigan universities and colleges as part of an effort spearheaded by First Lady Sue Snyder.
Recipients and amounts of the awards were announced Wednesday and range from $953 going to Northwestern Michigan College to $60,000 for Lake Superior State.
The $500,000 for the Campus Sexual Assault Grant Program was appropriated from the state's general fund budget. Schools were encouraged to summit two grant applications. More than $1.6 million was requested.
Proposals included bystander training programs, emphasis on student participation, collaboration with local bars and businesses and the creation of networks to improve access to sexual assault prevention resources.
Snyder tells The Associated Press Wednesday that students have to buy in and get involved for the programs to "move forward."
