Cobra no longer scaring Ishpeming residents

ISHPEMING, MI--   Ishpeming Police say a venomous snake they were searching for in town was never on the loose.

The monocled cobra was discovered missing from its cage on the 700 block of Duncan Avenue Thursday night. The owner does have an exotic animal license.

Officers notified the public to be on the lookout for the snake, especially near the Al Quaal Recreation Area.

Monday morning officers said the snake was taken as part of a civil dispute between two parties and the public was never in danger.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
