Clock tower being built at MTU

HOUGHTON, MI--   Michigan Tech is breaking ground on its new Bernard Family clock tower Friday.

The tower and a student scholarship were made possible through a donation from the William and Ilene Bernard, Jr. family. The construction is part of the Alumni Way beautification project, which began with the Garden Plaza off the library and the Husky Statue Plaza—both created through alumni donations. The Bernard family hopes the tower will inspire students to create new traditions through the “ringing of the bell” to acknowledge special events, historical holidays, and important accomplishments of the student body.

The groundbreaking takes place at 11:30 a.m. between the Memorial Union building and the R.L. Smith building.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
