Charges filed in Iron County assault

CRYSTAL FALLS, MI--   An Iron River Township man has been charged with felonious assault in connection with a shooting incident on Sunday. 

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office was called to the home around 4:20 p.m. on a report that a disorderly subject was fighting with family members.  Deputies say Bobby Joe Nordstrom, 37, obtained a gun and fired two shots.  He then barricaded himself in a relative’s house, but after a brief standoff surrendered to police. 

Nordstrom is charged with two counts of felonious assault, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, felon in possession of a firearm, and being an habitual offender, fourth offense.  He remains lodged in the Iron County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond. 

A preliminary exam is set for July 16.    

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
