Champion driver runs traffic light, causes crash, in Marquette Township

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Minor injuries were reported in a two-vehicle accident in Marquette Township Wednesday.

Marquette County Sheriff’s deputies were called around 3:50 p.m. to US-41 West and County Road HQ, by Target. They say Joyce Ogea, 53, of Champion was driving a Jeep when she disregarded the traffic light and entered the intersection from the west. Zachary Steffes, 30, of downstate Westland was driving a Dodge when he entered the intersection from Wal-Mart at the same time.

The collision partially blocked traffic for about 40 minutes.

Two passengers from the Jeep were taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of minor injuries. Steffes wasn’t injured.

Ogea was ticketed for disregarding a stop and go light.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
