Cathedral owl back at Chocolay Raptor Center

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Marquette owl rehabbed after being shot a couple of years ago is back at the Chocolay Raptor Center.

On Friday “Papa Owl" was found on his back on the ground across the street from St. Peter Cathedral. Center Director Jerry Maynard says the owl was x-rayed but no injuries were found. He says Papa may be concussed from getting hit by a car.

The owl is on medication and seems to be headed toward recovery.

Papa and his mate raised two chicks in their cathedral nest in 2015 and one last year.  Maynard says there’s no sign of chicks yet this year, but they should be hatching right about now.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
