FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, MI (AP)-- A summer youth camp in Franklin Township offers a chance to learn about emergency medical care.
The Daily Mining Gazette reports that this year's two-day Camp 911 was held last week at the Mercy EMS headquarters. The first Camp 911 was held in 1999. It was the idea of a Marquette doctor.
Ann Clancy-Klemme helped create Camp 911 as a nurse. The first year it had 22 children. She says it now has "80-plus."
Most of the children are in sixth and seventh grade. More than a dozen had to be turned away, but they get on the list for next year.
Clancy-Klemme says they are taught how to deal with emergency situations. They also learn ways to avoid emergencies.
