U.P. braces for winter storm

MARQUETTE, MI (NWS)--   A major winter storm will bring widespread heavy snow to Upper Michigan Monday, beginning in the morning along the Wisconsin border then by later afternoon over Northern and Eastern Upper Michigan. 

Snow will continue into Tuesday, heavy at times. Snowfall rates during the periods of heavier snow will likely be over 1 inch per hour.

Snow will diminish late in the day on Tuesday away from Lake Superior. There will also be some blowing snow, especially in open areas.

The heaviest snow and lowest visibilities are expected Monday afternoon into Monday evening, then again on Tuesday morning.  During these times snowfall rates may exceed one inch per hour.

Storm total snowfall of a foot or more is expected, up to two feet in some areas.
