Blemke sentenced for LaFavre murder

MARQUETTE, MI--   An Ishpeming man charged in the stabbing death of a Marquette man in June of last year has been sentenced.

Derek Blemke, 25, pleaded no contest earlier this year to second-degree murder. He was arrested after Brandon LaFavre, 21, was found dead in his apartment on the 200 block of Wright Street. Blemke was accused of stabbing LaFavre 24 times while LaFavre slept.

Blemke was sentenced Monday to 20 to 40 years in prison with credit for 479 days already served. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
