MARQUETTE, MI--   A UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter will land at Northern Michigan University this week.

Thursday the Michigan Army National Guard’s 3-238th general support aviation battalion in Grand Ledge is flying the chopper to campus.

LTC Jonathan Rastall is head of NMU’s military science department.  He says the National Guard had conducted an Aviation Officer Orientation Day last fall downstate, but since Northern wasn’t able to participate he contacted them regarding an orientation day in the U.P.

“This event will provide a great opportunity for current military members and ROTC cadets to further explore the career opportunities Army Aviation can provide within the Michigan National Guard,” Rastall says.

The Black Hawk helicopter will be on static display from 1-3 p.m. Thursday on the corner of Wright and Lincoln streets.  Beginning at 3 p.m. it will engage in orientation flights for current military members and cadets in NMU’s Wildcat Battalion ROTC program.

Campus and community members are welcome to look at the aircraft while it’s on display.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
