LANSING, MI (AP)-- Michigan residents would be able to include emergency contact information on their driver's license or state identification card under new proposed legislation.
Republican Rep. Peter Lucido of Shelby Township introduced a measure Wednesday he says would help paramedics and police quickly find a victim's emergency contact when responding to an accident.
Michigan residents would have the option of including the information on an encrypted part of the card. Emergency personnel could swipe or scan the card and gain access to the information.
Since many cell phones now require passcodes to use, it can be difficult for emergency personnel to access someone's contacts that way.
Lucido says his proposal would help Michigan residents "know that if they get in an accident, their emergency contact information is readily available."
