LANSING, MI (AP)-- People convicted of animal abuse would be required to register with local law enforcement and prohibited from adopting animals under legislation recently introduced in the Michigan House.
Republican Representative Paul Muxlow of Brown City and Democratic Representative Harvey Santana of Detroit introduced legislation this week that would require people convicted of animal abuse to submit their address, photograph and social security number to local law enforcement.
People would remain on the registry for five years and would be required to pay an annual fee of $250.
Another bill would prohibit animal control shelters from allowing people listed on the registry to adopt animals.
Similar measures were introduced last year.
