B&E suspect locks herself in loot-filled car

CURTIS, MI--   A Mackinac County woman is jailed after police found her locked in her own car...  which contained stolen items.

Troopers from the St. Ignace Post say a breaking and entering was reported Monday around 7:35 a.m. at Chamberlin’s Ole Forest Inn in Portage Township.  Investigation revealed a 42-year-old Curtis woman entered the inn and took numerous items.

During the course of the theft the suspect unknowingly lost her car keys.  After loading and getting into it, the suspect realized she was locked inside the vehicle because the inside door latches were broken.  Keys were needed to roll down the window and use the exterior latch to open the door.  The woman had to sit in the vehicle and wait for officers to arrive.

The suspect was arrested for home invasion and larceny in a building.  She remains lodged in the Mackinac County Jail.

Troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post assisted at the scene.
