Arrest made in Doyle Township car fire deaths

WEST FRANKFORT, IL--   Illinois police have arrested a Manistique man in connection with the deaths of three people whose bodies were found in a burned-out car in Schoolcraft County.

Kenneth Daniel Brunke, 45, was taken into custody Sunday by officers in West Frankfort, Illinois following 24-hour-a-day surveillance on a residence there.

Investigation by Michigan State Police resulted in Brunke being named a person of interest in the deaths of Jody Hutchinson, 42, of Gould City, and sisters Carrie Nelson, 31, and Heather Aldrich, 25, of the Newberry area.  Their bodies were found in a burned car on a gravel road in Doyle Township April 17.

On Sunday Michigan State Police detectives notified West Frankfort Police that a warrant had been authorized for Brunke’s arrest.  He’s charged with three counts of homicide.

Brunke was lodged in the Franklin County Jail without bond.  He has waived extradition and will be brought back to the U.P. for arraignment.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
