Arraignment expected for Ishpeming man involved in police standoff

ISHPEMING, MI--   A 33-year-old Ishpeming man is charged with home invasion after he held police at bay Monday into Tuesday morning in a residence on Hewitt Street.

City Police say the victim reported her boyfriend had entered the house without her permission and assaulted her.  She said there were guns in the house, he had been drinking, and he may be suffering from post-traumatic stress.

The unidentified man eventually left the home when he saw the arrival of the State Police Emergency Services Team and an armored vehicle.

The suspect is charged with first-degree home invasion, punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $5,000 fine.  He remains lodged in the Marquette County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond.

Arraignment is expected Wednesday.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
