DETROIT, MI (AP)-- Ford is making plans to sell small pickup trucks in the U.S. again.
A person briefed on the matter says the company is considering a new version of the Ranger pickup, as well as a small, rugged SUV.
The company is talking with the United Auto Workers about making the vehicles at a factory near Detroit. The plant could also get a new small SUV, says the person, who didn't want to be identified because plans aren't final.
The factory in the suburb of Wayne now makes compact cars, but those are being moved to Mexico in 2018.
Contract talks between the UAW and the three Detroit-area automakers began last month.
Ford stopped selling Rangers in 2011. But since then General Motors has returned to the market.
