Anti-bullying campaign comes to U.P.

MARQUETTE, MI--   A Michigan State University basketball player who played on several championship teams is in the U.P. to talk about bullying. 

Anthony Ianni was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder at the age of 4 and was the victim of bullying as a child. He went to MSU and under coach Tom Izzo became the first known individual with autism to play Division I basketball.  Ianni was a member of the 2010 and 2012 Big Ten Champion and Tournament Championship teams, and the 2010 Final Four team.

Under his “Relentless Tour”, Ianni will talk to several schools to inspire kids to take a stand against bullying.

His schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, September 28

  • Hancock Elementary School: 9 a.m.
  • Hancock Middle/High School: 10:30 a.m.
  • Calumet Elementary: 12:45 p.m.
  • Copper Country ISD: 6 p.m.

Thursday, September 29

  • Ontonagon Area School: 9:45 a.m.
  • Ewen-Trout Creek Schools: 12:30 p.m.

Friday, September 30

  • Sullivan Elementary: 8:45 a.m.
  • L’Anse High School: 10:30 a.m.
Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
