Another earthquake felt downstate

UNION CITY, MI (AP)--   Geological experts say a small earthquake centered in southern Michigan has been felt in parts of the state.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the 3.3-magnitude temblor was recorded Tuesday morning northeast of Union City. There were no reports of damage or injuries.

The earthquake was centered southeast of Battle Creek, where the Battle Creek Enquirer reports a low rumbling preceded a single jolt.

Geologists say earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and damage is not likely in quakes below magnitude 4.0.

In early May, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded in southwestern Michigan, near Galesburg, and felt in other parts of the Upper Midwest. There were no reports of damage or injuries from that quake.
