After a brief respite, winter returns

YPSILANTI, MI (AP)--   Blustery winds are pushing across Michigan, knocking out traffic signals and blacking out at least 150,000 utility customers.

The National Weather Service says a cold front moving through the Great Lakes will drop temperatures in Michigan. The high reached 62 at Ypsilanti on Monday but was down to 44 by 4 p.m.

A wind advisory is in effect for much of the Lower Peninsula, with gale warnings issued on the lakes. In southern Michigan, southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph are forecast that could gust to 45 mph.

DTE Energy Co. says 150,000 of the homes and businesses it serves lost power by 4 p.m. Monday.

The weather service says up to eight inches of snow could fall in the Upper Peninsula, with the heaviest snowfall along Lake Superior.
