SAULT STE. MARIE, MI (AP)-- Officials say 53 state-managed public properties on Bois Blanc Island are going on the auction block.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has scheduled the live public auction for Aug. 11 at the Kewadin Casino in Sault Ste. Marie.
The surplus properties are in Mackinac County's Bois Blanc Township on the eastern part of the island, which is accessible by ferry from Cheboygan. The state took possession after previous owners didn't pay taxes.
Parcels range in size from less than 1 acre to 22.5 acres.
The DNR says proceeds from the sale will fund outdoor recreation opportunities.
