Arts & Culture en UP Book Tour 2014 Schedule of Events <p>Here is the online link to the 2014 UP Book Tour schedule of events:</p><p><a href=""></a></p><p></p> Mon, 21 Apr 2014 15:31:46 +0000 Stan Wright 42274 at National Park has big impact on Keweenaw <p>CALUMET, MI--&nbsp;&nbsp; Visitors to the Keweenaw National Historical Park contribute millions of dollars a year to the local economy.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p></p><p>That’s the finding of a National Park Service report for 2012.&nbsp; The report indicates 240,000 visitors spent about $10 million in communities throughout the Copper Country.&nbsp; It says that spending supported 95 jobs in the area.&nbsp;</p><p>The report also says the park’s federal budget and project funding in 2012 contributed about $3 million and more than 20 jobs into the local economy.&nbsp;</p> Mon, 10 Mar 2014 11:27:12 +0000 Nicole Walton 40256 at National Park has big impact on Keweenaw Jeff Haas gets his famous father's piano <p>TRAVERSE CITY, MI (AP)--&nbsp;&nbsp; A Baldwin Artist Grand piano used by the late classical pianist Karl Haas on his WJR radio show, "Adventures in Good Music," from 1959 to 1974 is now in the hands of his son in Traverse&nbsp;</p><p>City.&nbsp;</p><p>The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that jazz pianist Jeff Haas received it this week. He recalls visiting the WJR studios in Detroit's Fisher Building as a child to see his father perform. His father started and ended the show by playing his theme song on the piano.</p> Fri, 07 Feb 2014 15:15:50 +0000 Associated Press 38957 at Jeff Haas gets his famous father's piano Save the Wild U.P. is calling all poets <p>MARQUETTE, MI (AP)--&nbsp;&nbsp; A group that works to preserve the Upper Peninsula's environment and culture is sponsoring a poetry contest.&nbsp;</p><p></p><p>Save the Wild U.P. is inviting submissions of poems with nature themes that are "written in the spirit of wilderness or inspired by personal connections with the unique landscape of the Upper Peninsula."</p><p>The "Putting the Wild into Words" contest is free and open to current U.P. residents.
