Event Description

The Transition Marquette County Reading Group will meet at 7pm on Thursday, October 12 in the Conference Room at Peter White Public Library to discuss the book “Thank You for Being Late, an Optimist’s Guide to Thriving in the Age of Accelerations”, by Thomas Friedman. Friedman describes how especially since 2007 “accelerations” in Globalization (the Market), in Climate Change (Mother Nature), and in Technology (the internet and smart phones), have come together to create an “age of acceleration” which is transforming almost every aspect of modern life, the workplace, politics, geopolitics, ethics, and community. Friedman suggests that we should purposely "be late" -- we should pause to appreciate the amazing historical epoch we're passing through and to reflect on its possibilities and dangers. Anyone is welcome to join the conversation. It would help to have at least started to read the book. For more information, call Charlie at 226-3314 or email mqtchaz@gmail.com
