UP Shakes’ will present Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire at Ore Dock Brewing Company July 16, 19, 23, 25, 30 at 7:30 PM. Anyone familiar with the play on stage or screen can expect a very different experience this time around. The production will feature minimal set and props, shifting focus to the actors and the text. And, because of the venue, beer will be available throughout. “Great writing is great writing,” says Executive Director, Alastar Dimitrie. “Like Shakespeare, Williams uses heightened language to find a deeper truth. He creates a world that feels more alive than real life. His New Orleans is a place of beauty and debauchery, tenderness and cruelty. It’s real, it’s sexy, it's devastating—it doesn’t need to be dressed up.“ The show Directed by Jamie Weeder, features Jessica “Red” Bays as Blanche, Alastar Dimitrie as Stanley, Mary Wardell as Stella and Jeffrey Butler II as Mitch. Music by Who Dat Brass -Roscoe Shieler, will have you stepping out of the UP and into New Orleans. Coupled with set design by Marty Martello, it is sure to be an immersive night of Theatre and Music. Tickets are $13.00 Seniors & Student, $15.00 General and available at www.upshakes.org.
