Want to get in shape while saving Middle Earth? The Peter White Public Library is issuing a Middle Earth Walking Challenge as part of its Build a Better World summer reading program. Starting May 30, patrons can come to the circulation desk at the library and pick up a log in which they can record the number of miles they walk each day. If using a pedometer, 2000 steps counts as 1 mile. If biking, 4 miles ridden equals 1 walked. Along the way as certain milestones are achieved, patrons can earn Peter White bucks good on fines, movies, and copies. The challenge ends August 31, and logs must be turned in by September 8 to be considered for prizes which will be given to the top 20 walkers. See if you will be the one to walk from the Shire to Mordor and cast the one ring into Mt. Doom. There is no fee to participate. For more information, visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
